About the Home of The Wildcats

"Together We Achieve the Extraordinary"

We believe that the accomplishments of a team will always be much greater than that of any individual. We will strive to create a cohesive team unit throughout the season. We believe that teaching kids how to be a part of a successful team is much more important than teaching them only about how to succeed as an individual.

We care about and respect every student-athlete that attempts to become a member of the West Genesee baseball team. However, we believe that participation in athletics is a privilege, not a right. The athlete earns a position on the team through dedication, commitment, a good attitude, hard work, skill, and team play. Not everyone can meet these criteria, and not everyone can be a member of the West Genesee baseball program.

We will work together to create a challenging athletic environment to produce high achievement on the baseball field. We believe that kids must be pushed and often times play above their ability levels in order to achieve their highest level of success. More importantly, we believe that schoolwork is improved by participation in athletics. Grades come first and participation allows students to learn time management among other valuable lessons.

Coaches Expectations:

• Model and hold all players accountable to player attributes, including respect
• Model a united front as a coaching staff
• 100% attendance at all practices and games
• Coach players on the finer points of the game
• Be there to support the student-athletes as teachers and mentors

The purpose of this coaching staff is to improve your son as a baseball player and as a young man. While we see baseball as being a great thing, we recognize that there are standards that are much more important that we need to teach and model. If your son doesn't live up to those standards, they will know it. We will hold your son accountable to these standards and do so in an appropriate manner.

We recognize and want all parents to recognize the following statistics: .00134 percent of high school baseball players make to the major leagues for one full year. There are roughly 700 major league jobs playing baseball. There are roughly 13,722 high schools playing baseball in the United States. There are over half a million high school players in the country. Our job is not to make your son one of those major league baseball players. Our job is to bring a group of student-athletes together as a team and to teach them valuable lessons using the vehicle of baseball.

It is our responsibility to make decisions on playing time, lineups, and strategy. The vast majority of these decisions will be made as a group. There is a ton of collaboration that goes into every decision that is made on the baseball field. You see the result of those thoughts and efforts. Sometimes people will disagree with decisions that are made by coaches, but it is important to recognize that the coaching staff will always work to do what is best for our kids and their teams. Not every player will get equal playing time, but every player is equally important to the team's success. Each member of the team needs to learn their role and perform their part to the best of their ability. If we are to achieve our goals, individually, and, more importantly, collectively, a total and unselfish team effort is required.
